Resin Bonded Surfacing

Resin bound gravel is probably the most beautiful paving system on the market today. It’s a relatively new but extremely popular paving system used by landscapers, developers and private homeowners to create beautiful driveways and footpaths. Natural in appearance, Eco friendly and slip resistant it’s unmatched by any other paving product.
The system involves mixing a two part polyurethane resin with washed and dried natural aggregate. The mixing takes place in a specially designed force action mixer, which is then tipped into a wheelbarrow and transported to the working area. It is then leveled and troweled off to form a smooth closed finish. The industry standard laying depth is 18mm for vehicular traffic although that can be reduced to 12mm for pedestrian use. Curing time depends on the time of year but can range from 2 to 12 hours.

Keep it in house

Another huge advantage we have over our competitors is that in most cases a new permeable asphalt will need to be laid before the resin bound surface can be installed. Usually AC 14mm binder course, obviously this is no issue for NPD but for other resin bound contractors they need to involve another surfacing firm. This means an increase in cost and you have less control over the end result.

What is SudS and SudS compliance?

This is a shorted terms for the sustainable drainage regulations. The UK Government set out guidelines called the Sustainable Drainage Standards. These standards aim to ensure surfaces are designed and built to reduce flood risk and manage drainage in a way that is safe and responsible. NPD resin bound surfaces are fully SuDS compliant. How Resin Bound Surfaces areSuDS compliant Resin bound surfacing provides a water-permeable surface when laid on an open grade binder asphalt. The resin bound mixture has open voids across the surface, allowing air to flow freely and surface water to filter through the structure, making it an ideal permeable system for driveways, paths, tree pits and areas prone to standing water making it SuDs compliant.
